Making Your Room Smile
In a previous post I remarked that I thought that there should be more humor in decorating.
The world can be a pretty serious place. The news can be heavy and bring us down.
It seems in our Information Age culture, we are ever hungry for more information. 200 years ago we would have known the news by word of mouth or a local newspaper. Now we get bombarded with tons of information from around the world 24/7, much of it is a downer.
For me, information overload can set in by the end of the day, and then it is time to go home, get away from it all. Relax, have some fun!
One cure for a heavy vibe is to lighten up! Smile! Crack a joke, or find some funny picture on the Net. Maybe even limit your Daily Information Intake or DII :). The Daily Show with John Stewart can be good medicine. Ultimately décor can be at least part of the answer. Science tells us color has an impact on our nervous system, and so color in home décor can help us get back to the Damn Happy and lighten up!
I also like the idea of home as Sanctuary, where you can be safe, colorful, maybe humorous or playful, and just relax. Bringing humor into your home décor can be a great antidote to a stressful world. After all, do you really want to be serious all the time? Maybe it's time for a little decorating lunacy in your domicile.
I wanted to dig into the topic a little from a image perspective and see what was out there. Here are some pictures I found. I hope you enjoy!
Shine on! Braxton
