Graffiti Décor – Street Art in Home Decorating

Rocking a Graffiti Art Vibe

I’ve been interested in Graffiti for some time, and I am not alone. It’s hot.

Wikipedia defines it as follows:

“Graffiti …is the name for images or lettering scratched, scrawled, painted or marked in any manner on property. Graffiti is any type of public markings that may appear in the forms of simple written words to elaborate wall paintings. Graffiti has existed since ancient times, with examples dating back to Ancient Greece and the Roman Empire.”

So like it’s not like new…yeah. But it feels new, hot, edgy. It’s Pop Art, which we love for our own design. It’s something I’m really interested in bringing into home décor, just because it is colorful, fresh, rocks an in your face anti-establishment vibe, and so democratic. It’s free art we can all enjoy - not locked away in a mansion or even a museum.

It has gotten popular enough that you can find art books on it. The controversy is, since this art is generally vandalism, a crime, it’s also anonymous - so when a company uses someone’s art to make money, shouldn’t they pay a royalty to the artist? Exactly how would they do that? I don’t know.

Some graffiti is writing on the bathroom wall, and annoying, but some is wonderfully beautiful or funny and thought provoking like Banksy, and done by incredibly talented artists.

We don’t often see Graffiti in home décor, though, at least not in the burbs. I thought I would do a little research and see if this cool art had made it’s way into decorating yet – furniture, walls, floors, etc. What follows is a snapshot of what I found.

Hope you enjoy! Shine on! Braxton
