Monochrome Modern Roomscapes

Rocking the single color story - Mod and Modern Decor

When Yancey and I first got the bug for Mod, one of the first pictures she showed me was a monochrome yellow bedroom. What I liked about it was it was different, not the normal House and Garden variety roomscape, it rocked a single color and white, and that was different and different was cool.

We are folks that like to zig when others zag. Like when our neighbors bought minivans and SUV’s, we bought a funny little sedan called a Camry… Damn, come to think of it, that’s the most popular car in the world!…Fuck, not so against the grain after all. Shit.

Anyway, lets get back to cool, modern and mod décor. In terms of monochrome, Wikipedia defines it thus:

Monochrome[1] describes paintings, drawings, design, or photographs in one color or shades of one color.[2] A monochromatic object or image has colors in shades of limited colors or hues.

So how does that apply to rooms? Most monochrome rooms are black and white, seemingly, just like a monochrome or greyscale photograph, but what gets me hot and bothered from a Mod perspective is bright, saturated color. It doesn’t all have to be the same exact color, but hues of the same color, like variations of green.

Monochrome rooms can make a small space look bigger. For interest, you can add pattern or texture.

This post just scratches the surface of Monochrome design, perhaps others can add some color to this topic : ).

Hope you enjoy!
Shine on! Braxton
