STOP THE MADNESS!

Last week I showed you pictures of some rather nice (Blenko) art glass pieces we purchased at an antique store in Buchanan Virginia.   Well, we did it again, only this time we went rather low end.

I'm a big believer in high/low accessorizing, just like in fashion, it's easy to mix nicer (high end) pieces with less expensive (low end) pieces as long as your low end pieces are ones that you really truly love.
This blue glass piece was picked up for around $6.00.  There is something so magical about blue glass!  I just can't stop photographing it.  BTW;  notice the shadows the rippled glass makes on my desk top!
This orange pitcher has such a whimsical shape.  Again, very low end.  I believe we spent around $23.00 for this one.

Braxton and I were recently remarking about how you never find pink glass, then sure enough, we walked right into this hot pink piece hiding behind a bunch of junk as if it was embarrassed to be there.  We immediately grabbed it for $13.00.

This is my favorite - there I go with the blue glass again - but, I have no idea what it is.  A candy dish?  Ash tray?  Bath tub for fairies?  Any ideas? All I know it that it was totally worth the $6.oo we spent.

Here are our newest (and probably last) additions to our glass collection all lined up.  Want to see where they all ended up?

The orange pitcher and blue glass are on the mantle piece next the considerable more expensive Blenko pieces from last weekend.

They seem to coexist rather nicely.
Yes, I had a different orange piece here earlier. Braxton and I agree that this one is better.

What?  You can't  spot the blue bowl and the hot pink vase?

The blushing pink vase sits on the shelf above the clock.
The blue bowl sits on a stack of books.  I just realized how funny it is to have Alexandra stoddard and Gil Elvgren on the same shelf - I wonder if they will fight!

Lets see what the room looks like with the whole glass collection:  These are two pieces we purchased a few weeks ago sitting on Braxtons desk.

These are both newer and older (high/low ) pieces.

In the spirit of keeping it real this is my unstyled/somewhat messy library/entrance hall with several pieces of colored glass hiding amongst the books.
Because our little hobby of colored art glass  collecting has turned into somewhat of an obsession, I think we should stop the madness now!  At least until we find another piece that we really truly love.
What are your hobbies that you are obsessed about?  Colored art glass collecting anyone?
Have a beautiful day.

CONSIGNING MONDAY

Is anyone out there familiar with this china pattern?  Braxton and I found a 22 piece collection of dinner ware in this pattern at a consignment store yesterday.  It's called "Harvest Time" and was clearly produced in the mid 20th century.  The back ground of the dishes is white with a leaf motif in grey and pale gold with a darker brown/gold leaf.  I'll research Ben Seibel for Iroquois  later in the week and let you know what I find.
Isn't this gorgeous?

I love the softness of these leaves.

There larger bowls are probably for soup or salad.

The salt and pepper shakers are probably my favorite pieces - to me they scream mid century.

This was probably meant to be a creamer - but I'll use it for salad dressings and other sauces.

The smaller bowls are golden brown on the inside and white on the outside.  Braxton and I have noticed this unusual color application seemed to be popular in the mid century.  Jonathan Adler has used this technique as have the designers for Target.

I love the organic (wonky?) shapes of the serving bowls.  Again, a design element that has fallen out of favor today.

Want to come to dinner?

The green glass thingy on the right is something else we found at the consignment store.

Doesn't glass look fantastic when placed in front of a window?

I've said it before - but I love the blue and green color combination.
I apologize for being awol yesterday.  My father was visiting over the weekend and I needed a day to recover - and clean up the house.  I hope you had a beautiful weekend!

If anyone is familiar with the Iroquois company or the Harvest Time pattern - please let me know.

Have a beautiful day.

ONE ATOMIC LAMP & TWO ORANGE LOVELIES - A THRIFTING SUCCESS STORY

Meet our newest atomic lamp.
Due to scheduled family obligations on Sunday, Braxton and I had to make the most of our limited thrifting opportunities on Saturday.  We went to our fave consignment shop, the one that is closest to a sure thing.  As we were browsing through the usual grandmotherly antiques looking for that mid century needle in a hay stack, I took a quick peek into the back room, the one for employees only beyond this point.  There on a table in the center of the room, covered in 60 years worth of dust, was the most fantastic atomic lamp.
It was a reasonable price, although the shade was not in perfect shape, so we brought it home.  No regrets here!
This is an atomic lamp we purchased a few weeks ago.  Yes, they do have the exact same shade.  Because we decided to place the newer (to us) lamp in a more prominent place, we switched the shades and positioned the most faded side toward the wall.  Win win.

A closeup of the center (spaceship) of the lamp.  It's difficult to see here but the colors are black and gold.

Close up of the top of the base.

Glamour shot.  Isn't she gorgeous?

This orange lovely sits on the desk in our living room in front of the window.

The sunshine through the glass makes a gorgeous orange swirl.

Now, THIS orange lovely will sit on our coffee table.  It's shiny, glass, and orange.  I'm so in love!

Doesn't everything look better in the sun shine?
I hope everyone had a beautiful weekend.

MS. THANG'S BLING

If you recall when Braxton and I went to that incredible estate sale last weekend we not only picked up some fabulous mid century furniture for the living room - we also picked up a few treasures for the old jewelry drawer. Trust me each one was a bargain. Seriously, nothing was more than $3.00 and most was around $1.00. Another reason to love a good estate sale.

This is a gorgeous red and black beaded necklace.  I've been looking for this for quite a while.

Mondrian would be proud.

Red earrings.  Something else I've been searching for.

This fantastic emerald green plastic necklace was in the dollar bin!  This I love.

There is something so snappy about black and white jewelry.  This is the set I'll no doubt get the most use out of....

...case in point.  Plus black and white jewelry goes with absolutely everything.

Why yes these are disco ball earrings and they are all mine.
Today I am thankful for happy and healthy children.
Me and my girls in 1990/something at Myrtle Beach South Carolina.
Our girls are now both in their 20's.  They are well educated, funny, talented and both are accomplished artists.  They are hands down the loveliest women I've ever know and I am so proud to be their Mom.

Have a beautiful Mother's Day weekend everyone!
