SHINY HAPPY STRIPES

Do you ever get the lyrics wrong?  Then feel like a complete dork when you discover your mistake?  Well, the same goes for getting names wrong.  For years I mentally inserted a "r" in Michael Stipe's name making it Michael Stripe, which is really all the excuse I have for ending this week of "stripes muse" with this video.  Oh and the fact that Michael Stipe is wearing a striped shirt.  Somehow it all makes sense.Have a great weekend, you shiny happy people.

VERTICAL STRIPES

We began this week of "stripes" with a post on horizontal stripes.  Naturally I couldn't let the week get away without posting about vertical stripes as well.
Remember, the eye tends to follow a line or stripe weather it's from side to side (horizontal) or up and down (vertical).  Therefore, it makes sense that vertical stripes will make a wall appear taller.  Generally a good thing, especially when the room is large.  Let's look at some examples....
I'm not sure how they did this, but I do love it.

There is something about the combination of black/white/green that I'm loving right now.

Love that they carried this stripe across the ceiling.

The black and white stripe keeps this old fashioned room looking fresh and modern.

What's your opinion on horizontal stripes vs. vertical stripes?  Have you ever painted stripes?  What about wallpaper?
Have a beautiful day.

ZEBRA AND TIGER STRIPES

It's pretty clear why animals and their fur have always been inspiring to designers of fashion and decor.  No one loves nature and animals more than I do, yet I'm not quite sure how I feel about the wearing of fur, even the fake variety.  I tend to like animal inspiration best as a decor element rather than a fashion statement.  Let's see if I can change my mind on this one.

This strikes me as a fashion don't.

This I do like, and would definitely wear.
Is there an animal more beautiful than the tiger?

I swear my MIL has this same coat.
Just because I have the mother of all sinus infections and basically feel like S#*t today....I leave you with an adorable chipmunk picture.  This little guy makes me happy.

What's your opinion of animals prints?  Do you wear zebra or tiger stripes?  Decorate with them?
BTW:  I didn't change my mind....I still like animals prints better as a decor statement.  Oh vell.
Have a beautiful day.

HORIZONTAL STRIPES

If you've read any fashion magazines lately, you have to know that horizontal stripes are hot hot hot.  Ironic because I've always heard that horizontal lines are a definite fashion don't , especially for petites likes me.  Turns out (almost) anyone can wear a horizontal striped t-shirt with a dark skirt or pants.  Added bonus, if you are pear shaped the striped top can help balance out your shape.
So, what about horizontal stripes in decor?  Well, because our eye tends to follow a strip (or any line) a horizontal stripe can make a wall appear wider, it can also make the ceiling appear lower.  Not necessarily a bad thing....horizontal stripes are particularly great in a small room such as a bathroom or laundry room, and can really open up a hallway.
Horizontal stripes bring energy, and a cheeky playful casual look to a space.  Of course, the wider the stripe the bolder the outcome.  Here are some fun examples....

I fell in love with this room years ago.  Can't get it out of my mind.  A definite favorite!

You would have to wake up pretty early in the morning to come up with a bolder idea than this one.  This just makes me smile.

Would you decorate with horizontal stripes?
Have a beautiful day.
