California highway 1
The beautiful pacific coast of California...sounds nice doesn't it? Let's check it out via highway 1, which connects beautiful coastal cities and accesses parks and gorgeous beaches, making it one of the most scenic roads in America..not to mention a popular tourist destination.
Highway 1 was a nightmare to build, especially around the Big-Sur coast, where there are 33 bridges. San Quinton prisoners provided unskilled labor in exchange for 35 cents a day and a shortened sentence!
